Health Systems Stregnthening

Health systems strengthening (HSS) has been known to play catalytic role in improvement of populations’ health and protection against health-related financial risks. Although the pace of global development has been impressive, however, not all countries have developed at the same speed. It has been reported that low-and middle-income countries (LMICs) have lower health and development outcomes are at risk of not being able to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the next few years. The SDGs places increased emphasis on achieving universal health coverage through improved performance of countries' health systems.

Enhancing the healthcare system is crucial to tackle increasing and diversifying health needs of LMICs. Strengthening of primary health care (PHC) is one of the strategies to achieve continuum of health care and resilient health systems to deal with pandemic and future health emergencies. There is need to prioritize primary and community health care - frontline of all health system by organizing them into multi-disciplinary teams and empowering innovative roles to health professionals. There is need to equip front line health workers (FLW) with digital technology, and provide with well-designed incentives to helps deliver a successful health system response.
