Smart Scope® is a trans-vaginal digital examination device. It is a patented health product designed for the well-being of women in the age group of 21 to 65 years. It facilitates close examination and magnified visualization of the cervix, thereby enables identification of abnormalities or precancerous changes at an early stage. It is helpful in keeping track of cervical health of an individual patient over a period of many years. Smart Scope® is a user-friendly, portable, and electricity-free device. It can be easily operated by a trained health worker or nurse. Stored images can be analysed by an expert doctor from a remote location. This reduces the dependence on constant availability of human expertise on site of exam, negates the subjectivity of a visual screening test when performed by trained auxiliary staff, and removes the multi-step lab-based process of expensive cytopathology tests such as the Pap Smear and HPV DNA, thus resulting in an efficient cervical screening program. Smart Scope® uses WHO-recommended chemical reagents and digital image analysis to render accurate results in a single visit. With recommended uptake in the public health system for routine and community-based screening, the Smart Scope® hopes to eliminate cervical cancer related mortality from India and similar resource-constrained countries around the globe.
