As the rise in Covid cases started in 2019, the import dependency for Diagnostic Kits and Oxygen related equipment became higher. The face this challenge, Indian Manufacturers and Diagnostic industries started indigenous manufacturing and the medical industry was able to cope-up with the crunch in covid related emergency equipment like Point of Care diagnostic kit for Covid-19 based on PCR technology, Point of care serological test anti-body based and Ventilator . With the support from BIRAC and DBT in collaboration NBM, the Covid-19 Research Consortium was initiated to facilitate the holistic development of Diagnostic ecosystem of the country. This initiative reduced the import dependency and allowed India to extend their support in exporting to other countries with medical equipment emergencies
