SmartWalk is capable of real-time monitoring of one’s gait and quantifying it to extract step time, cadence etc. and offer visual cue to overcome Freezing of Gait in an individualized manner.
Title: The SmartWalk comprises of a Microcontroller based Central Processor unit that receives real-time gait-related data from a pair of Instrumented Shoes, pre-processes the data using signal processing techniques, records the data in a portable unit in a time-stamped manner and characterizes gait in terms of indices, such as step time, cadence, swing time, double limb support time, etc. Based on the gait-related indices, an AI Artificially Intelligent enabled Strategy Generator residing in the Microcontroller looks out for recording any gait abnormality. In turn, the Strategy Generator triggers a Visual Cue Generator unit that helps to overcome FoG in an individualized manner.
Innovator: Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar
USP: Currently existing technology-assisted solutions are expensive and use cumbersome, noise-prone setups that trigger external cues continuously. Additionally, delivery of cues is not individualized. Currently, the devices are as one-size-fits-for-all instead of being individualized that is crucial for intervention.
