Monosodium glutamate-inducible Pichia pastoris yeast expression system
Title: The methylotrophic yeast, Pichia pastoris Komagataella phaffi is widely used for the production of recombinant proteins of academic and commercial importance. Methanol-inducible alcohol oxidase promoter is widely used for this purpose. We have developed a novel expression system in which recombinant protein production can be induced by monosodium glutamate, the USFDA-approved flavour agent. The proof of principle has been demonstrated by expressing SARS CoV2-RBD in shake flasks with BIRAC funding. Indian patent has been granted. We have filed U.S. patent applicaiton National phase . Looking for an industrial forward for validation of our expression system in a fermenter/Bioreactor.
